Diving For Beauty Danica Daniels ‘20 Over the past couple of years a new trend has been growing in the beauty world. Beauty vloggers from all around have been going to Sephora and Ulta Beauty to dumpster dive for high end makeup products ranging from ‘'Urban Decay’, ‘'Benefit Cosmetics’, ‘'Anastasia’, ‘Gucci’ perfume and many more. Although this has been a growing trend, James Jugan has been dumpster diving and reselling the makeup since 1978. The reasons behind this growing trend is to save money and reduce waste. Ulta and Sephora throw away hundreds of dollars worth of makeup each day. According to Broadly a YouTuber named Shelbi (Shelbizleee) shows her viewers $2,000 worth of makeup collected from a dumpster behind Ulta. Some Beauty vloggers say that you should not get any liquid products such as eyeliner, mascara or lipstick because they cannot be sanitized. As far as lipstick goes tubed lipstick can be sanitized but again liquid lipstick cannot be. Products that have a pump only needs to be sanitized on the outside because nobody touches the product. https://youtu.be/fUcgUDACcB8 https://youtu.be/PGqThu3tjo0 https://youtu.be/tINEP0RqxzU https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/vb4exj/the-beauty-vloggers-dumpster-diving-for-high-end-makeup https://www.teenvogue.com/story/beauty-vloggers-dumpster-diving-youtube/amp Not Your Typical Blue Skies Christina Maldonado '19 On October 16th of 2017, London experienced something not out of the blue, but red. The sky of London was soaked with a dark orange color. This color made its way from Africa and Southern Europe. Storm Ophelia caused dust, debris, and tropical air to cloud the sky. The movement of air from the continent also brought in warmer temperatures to the area. The air moved towards the north. It picked up a lot of dust and debris which resulted from forest fires in Portugal and Spain. Ophelia had been spending most of its time around the Atlantic and was categorized as a three hurricane. It was soon know as a post-tropical storm. In the morning of Monday the 16th, storm Ophelia hit the southwest area of Ireland. This storm came after 30 years of The Great Storm of 1987. Nineteen people were killed from The Great Storm. The red skies were first spotted in the west of England and Wales. Simon King, a weather presenter from BBC said, “The dust gets picked up into the air and goes high up into the atmosphere, and that dust has been dragged high up in the atmosphere above the UK.” Why does the sun look red? The reporter also stated that the particles in the air cause blue light to scatter, leaving longer-wavelength red light to shine through. Residents of the area said that the sky reminded them of a scene from Star Wars, while other people referred to The Red Planet. There were many photos taken of the unusual, yet extraordinary red sky and those were posted on social media. https://www.google.com/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4985116/amp/Hurricane-creates-red-sun-skies-England.html https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/london-sky-cloaked-in-strange-orange-glow-in-storm-ophelia-dust-phenomenon-a3659886.html%3famp https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-england-41635906 Worst Hurricanes of 2017Angelic Lopez ‘19 Recently, 2017 has been the worst hurricane season yet with Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey.
